On the 5th November, Editor Hannah Woodcock visited the beautiful city of Amsterdam. As well as having a rich cultural history, the city is a great inspiration for creative projects. Here are a few highlights from Hannah’s various museum tours (including a diversion to a rubber duck store!).
As a national institute, the Rijksmuseum offers a representative overview of Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages onwards, and major aspects of European and Asian art. Although the artwork is incredibly impressive, it’s worth visiting the museum just to admire the stunning architecture.

House of Bols, the Cocktail & Genever Experience
Bols is the world’s oldest distilled spirit brand, dating back to 1575, when the Bols family opened a small distillery in Amsterdam. The original recipes are passed on from master distiller to master distiller, and updated to suit contemporary tastes. In the House of Bols, you can discover the flavours, aromas, and distilling processes of all 42 Bols liqueurs.
The above Blue Delft houses are gifted to KLM travelers in Business and Royal Class. KLM started issuing these miniature bottles in 1952. Air companies were not allowed to give presents to their customers due to unfair competition. So, KLM created the Blue Delft houses and filled them with genever – as there’s no law that airline drinks need to be served in a regular glass.
Amsterdam Tulip Museum
During the 1630s, a craze known as tulipmania swept Holland. In 1633, 3 Semper Augustus bulbs cost 10,000 guilders – the equivalent of an expensive Amsterdam townhouse! The Amsterdam Tulip Museum showcases the flower’s history, which has inspired Dutch artists, designers, painters and florists throughout the centuries.
Amsterdam Duck Store
With a selection of over 100 rubber ducks – including Prince, Darth Vader and Santa Claus – the Amsterdam Duck Store is definitely worth checking out.
Amsterdam is geweldig!
