Farewell Facebook. Ta ta, Twitter. So long, Snapchat. We’ve found a communication platform that totally rocks.
On the 3rd July, our Writing Studio celebrated International Drop a Rock Day by painting inspirational messages onto pebbles. After the stones are glazed, we’ll hide them across West Yorkshire for others to find. Whether you’re looking for a fun family activity, mindfulness exercise, or just want to share a little happiness, we highly recommend rock painting!
About Love Rocks
The concept of Love Rocks originated in 2013, after an American mother lost her 2 daughters – Anna and Abigail – in a heartbreaking accident. To commemorate their lives, Susan attempted to turn the loss around by creating the Love Rocks Facebook page and website.
As Susan explains, ‘We decided shortly after the girls went to Heaven that we were not going to allow the tragedy of one night to define our girls’ lives here on earth and the life they were now living in Heaven. Their legacy would not be this tragedy but rather the love and joy that they poured out to everyone who knew them and hopefully everyone who would hear their story […] There are photos of Love Rocks in parks, on beaches, on The Great Wall of China, in front of the Eiffel Tower, on doorsteps, in hospitals, at weddings and at funerals, in a secured NASA facility and at Anna’s and Abigail’s tree […] There have been so many stories of how these little rocks have found their rightful owner just when they needed it most.’
The Writing Studio Rocks
We were so moved by the concept of Love Rocks, we decided to design a few of our own. After all, brightening someone’s day with a message is at the heart of Hallmark Cards.
The theme for this year’s International Drop a Rock Day is You Matter.
Some editors focused on celebrating uniqueness.
Rocks read: You fantastical being ♦ Bee yourself ♦ Everyone feels a bit wonky…every now and then… ♦ It takes all sorts ♦ Go your own way ♦ You’re one in a melon ♦
After all, rocks come in all shapes, sizes and forms…including tomato.
Tomato reads: You can be anything you want to be ♦
Some editors chose to compliment their future rock reader.
Rocks read: Amazing, incredible YOU! ♦ beYOUtiful ♦ You are loved ♦ I like your face ♦ To the world you might just be someone, but to someone you mean the world ♦ Love is all around ♦
Some editors had rock solid advice.
Rocks read: Smile ♦ Greet each day with a smile ♦ Just keep believing ♦ Just be you!
One editor focused on the ‘international’ aspect of International Rock Day.
Rock reads: Yuanfen (Chinese): The force that brings us all together ♦
Thanks to the recent heatwaves, there was a strong aquatic theme.
Rocks read: You, me + the sea ♦ Throw me in the deepest lake, Let me sink to the bottom, forever forgotten. It would be worth it to have spent a moment being held by you ♦ Be more mermaid! ♦
Bonus photo: Hallmark’s rock group.
Let’s hope Humpty Dumpty’s rock is sturdier than his eggshell.
Feeling inspired? The next International Drop a Rock Day is on the 3rd July 2019, however you can decorate your own pebbles and leave them for people to find throughout the year. We’re hoping to design a few festive rocks in winter – keep an eye out for red and green stones appearing around West Yorkshire!
What message would you paint on your rock?
Happy painting. And always remember…
